Our Car Insurance Policies Include Many Levels of Coverage
The different car insurance companies with whom Water Insurance Agency works offer various coverage levels. Our professional and knowledgeable agents can help pinpoint what is best suited to your needs and vehicle. While the coverages differ, they always meet West Virginia minimum standards. Here is a list of coverages we offer:
Bodily Injury liability
Bodily injury liability prevents the policy holder from paying for others’ injuries that result from accidents involving an insured vehicle. Often, this coverage pays for medical costs, excluding the policy holder and driver. Sometimes this coverage comes in handy to cover legal defense in the event the policy holder gets sued for damages. The minimum limit in West Virginia is $25,000 per person and $50,000 per accident.
Bodily Injury caused by uninsured/underinsured motorists
Uninsured and underinsured motorist coverages pay for bodily injury expenses from an accident by an at-fault, uninsured or underinsured motorist. The coverages apply to the policy holder and other passengers involved in the accident. It does not pay for property damage. The minimum amount to cover bodily injury by uninsured motorists in West Virginia is $50,000. West Virginia does not require underinsurance motorist coverage.
Collision
Collision covers the cost to repair the policy holder’s vehicle, if damaged in an accident. To qualify for a vehicle loan, many financial institutions require policy holders to have this coverage included with their policy. If policy holders would rather pay less out of pocket, they can opt for a lower amount. Higher collision deductibles usually mean lower monthly premiums.
comprehensive physical damage
If a vehicle gets damaged by fire, flood, vandalism, or striking an animal, comprehensive physical damage pays for repairs. This coverage also pays to replace items stolen from the vehicle. Like collision coverage, most financial institutions require this coverage to qualify for a car loan. Deductible amounts vary.
damage to someone else’s property
This coverage pays out if an accident results in damage to another vehicle or someone else’s property. It covers vehicle repairs including labor and replacement parts. This coverage also pays for damage or destruction to other businesses, houses, fences, lampposts, mailboxes, and more.
medical payments/personal injury protection (pip)
Though similar, Medical Payments (MedPay) and Personal Injury Protection (PIP) are not the same thing. MedPay only pays for medical costs. PIP can include paying for medical bills, but also covers any potential death benefits like funeral costs and lost income. Both cover any person occupying the insured vehicle at the time of an accident. Though recommended, neither MedPay nor PIP are required in West Virginia.
property damage liability
Property damage liability covers another driver’s property in an accident for which the policy holder is at fault. In West Virginia, the minimum limit is $25,000. In some cases, insurance companies offer a $50,000 combined coverage for both bodily injury and property damage liability.
rental reimbursement/Substitute transportation
Rental reimbursement/substitute transportation coverage is not required but is an often-preferred coverage option. While the policy holder’s is being repaired or replaced, it pays for the cost of a rental vehicle. Most of the time, you have a daily limit with rental reimbursement that cannot exceed a certain number of days.
towing and labor
Towing and labor is another insurance add-on option, like rental reimbursement and substitute transportation. This coverage pays for the cost of towing your vehicle to a mechanic. It also pays for the labor charges incurred at the breakdown’s location.
